Zen Estate Bel Air, California 2005 Originally 2002:

A former client of Glen Hampton garden designs purchased this estate in early 2000. When Landscape Designer Glen Hampton first saw the property the wood clad residence reminded him of a Japanese Style Mountain House... The brick clad chimneys, motor court, and paving surfaces, and existing swimming pool decks and walls did not.

Glen had known the client for many years and was familiar with his love of Asian design that had grown from his experiences living in Hong Kong early on in the clients career. By 2000 the client had amassed a fine collection of Asian Antiques and Sculpture from his many business trips to the Orient over the years.

Because of Landscape Designer Glen Hampton's relationship and knowledge of the clients tastes he was given free rein to design and implement the garden as he envisioned it. Glen's desire to create a Zen Gardens setting for his clients collection, spiritual refurbishment, and relaxation lead to the creation of the zen estate as it appears today.

The Triplicities elements (Fire, Air, Water, and Earth) were the inspiration for this garden design: A fireplace was added to one end of the pool for the Fiery-Triplicity; Ornamental grasses were used in the landscape plantings... their movement in the breeze creating the Aery-Triplicity; The koi pond, swimming pool, and spa for the Watry Triplicity; And the use of natural Bluestone on the hardscape surfaces and the hand carved sculptural elements (The pools water basins and spa water feature) by Martin Rodriguez for the Earthy-Triplicity.

The residences Interior Designer Ginger Barber was consulted on the gardens outdoor furnishings.

This estate garden was installed by Rodriguez and Satterswait Landscapes.
