Pasadena Estate Gallery Pasadena, California 2006:

This Mid-Twentieth-Century Contemporary Estate is located in the San Rafael area of Pasadena, overlooking the Arroyo Seco with spectacular views of the San Gabriel Mountain Range to the North and sweeping view of the Historic Colorado Bridge and the City of Pasadena to the East. Previous owners had contracted with Glen Hampton garden designs to completely renovate the existing gardens. Garden plans were drawn up and awaiting the completion of the residence restoration, when the clients decided to sell.

In 2006 Glen Hampton garden designs was contacted by the new owners and asked to revise the proposed garden plans to suit the needs of their young family. Because of the new owners passion for mid-twentieth-century design and retro furnishings, Landscape designer Glen Hampton decided to create an updated version of a mid-twentieth-century contemporary landscape. Glen was inspired by the works of the modernist Landscape Architect Garrett Eckbo. Originally based in San Francisco, the landscape Architectural Firm of Eckbo, Royston, and Williams opened a branch office in Pasadena in 1948.

The previous owners had installed a glass-aluminum garage door which became the inspiration for the glass entry gates, fencing screens and pedestrian gates throughout the property. A combination of aggregate and washed finished concrete surfaces covers the entry motor court, walkways, and patio areas.

An architectural wall fountain tiled in glass mosaics provides the focal point leading to the dining terrace. The dining terraces contemporary styled cook center has a poured in place concrete counter top with an integrated sink. The built-in concrete cantilevered dining table, with retro molded plastic chairs, provides a sculptural landscape element.

A contemporary fire pit filled with Indgio Fireplace Crystals and surrounded by formed concrete bench walls provides a warm inviting setting to view the Arroyo after dark on cool chilly evenings.

The contemporary natural concrete planters from Inner Gardens were selected for their clean lines and geometric forms. Succulents, cactus, and grasses were chosen as the plant pallet, for their sculpture qualities. Custom designed landscape night lighting completes the desired effect.

This estate garden was installed by DG Landworks Inc.
