 Spanish Residence
 Los Angeles, California 1985:

In the mid nineteen eighties a series of newly planned residential communities were developed along the Mulholland Corridor. The sites located within these gated communities commanded sweeping views of the San Fernando Valley to the north and the Los Angeles Basin to the south.

In 1985 two prominent Los Angeles attorneys, who had recently completed construction of their new Spanish Residence, contracted with Glen Hampton garden designs to design the gardens of their home. Landscape Designer Glen Hampton's design for this garden was influenced by the Spanish style architecture of the residence.

The entrance to the site, a flag lot with a long narrow entrance drive presented a challenge, which was met by constructing driveway entrance gates paralleled by a long pedestrian entry walk leading to the main entrance. A classic Spanish style fountain set in a rose garden welcomes visitors into the entry courtyard.

Passing through the courtyard you find yourself in the rear garden pool/entertainment area. The classic design of the pool is accented by a spa/fountain. The residence is surrounded by a side garden with a tiled wall fountain becoming the focal point when viewed from a large window set into the end of the Great Room.

All paved areas are covered in Bouquet Canyon Stone. The pool and fountain tiles were hand selected from Country Floors/Country Tiles. All plant materials were selected from Landscape Designer Glen Hampton's Mediterranean plant palette. Low voltage garden lighting brings the garden to life for night time entertaining.

 Traditional Residence
 Pasadena, California 2002:

This traditional residence is located in an upscale neighborhood of older prestigious homes bordering the world famous Huntington Library. In 2002 Glen Hampton garden designs was contracted to revamp the existing gardens and swimming pool area. The clients, a professional couple, who traveled a great deal on business wanted their garden to be an elegant relaxing oasis from their busy schedules.

Landscape Designer Glen Hampton replaced an old worn driveway with a washed finished concrete circular entrance drive. The entry drive passes through a motor court, enclosed by a low wall and lamp pilasters constructed of Bouquet Canyon Stone. The formal entrance to the residence is framed by juniper spirals in classic planters.

The rear garden opens into a lushly planted courtyard leading to a dining terrace with outdoor kitchen and bar. Sweeping stone steps lead up to the newly remodeled guest house and swimming pool level. A 20 foot long water cascade is the focal point drawing you toward the secluded upper spa terrace at the rear of the garden.

The garden plantings were selected to provide an ever blooming colorful plant palette throughout the mild California seasons. Dramatic landscape lighting was designed for nighttime entertaining.

This garden remodel was installed by Arcadia Pools and Spas.

 Mediterranean Residence
 Irvine, California 2003:

In the late 1990s a series of new communities were developed on the last remaining open lands that were once part of the seaside ocean front Irvine Ranch, in Orange County. One of the smaller developments, done in the style of a Mediterranean village, was nestled into a canyon. The gated entrance to the development was centered on a single street, lined with single family homes, and ending in cul-de-sacs at both ends. Glen Hampton garden designs was contracted by a single young professional man to help create a garden, were he could entertain friends and colleagues.

The garden, while bounded by the preserved canyon slope to the rear, was fully exposed to the neighbors on both sides. The fact that the garden was only seventeen feet deep in places also presented a challenge. Landscape Designer Glen Hampton chose to create a series of outdoor living spaces consisting of a covered dining patio; living room with fireplace; a bar/cooking entertainment center; and sun bathing terrace connected by a wall water feature.

The privacy issue was solved by constructing raised planters on both ends of the garden and filling them with Mediterranean screen plantings. Night time entertaining was enhanced through the design of dramatic landscape lighting effects.

 Residence
 Beverly Hills, California 2004:

This residence is located in one of the many canyons above Beverly Hills, California. In 2004 Glen Hampton garden designs was contracted to revamp the existing front and rear gardens. Due to the fact that the residence is located on a heavily traveled canyon road, the clients were looking for a way to screen and secure the residence from the busy street.

Landscape Designer Glen Hampton achieved this by adding an entrance courtyard for privacy and to enhance the non-descript architectural elements of the existing residence. Classic fountains, columns, and Travertine paving were selected for the newly designed courtyard and rear terrace, to mirror the classic interiors of the residence.

A simplistic plant palette made up of greens, whites, and shades of purple, were selected. Garden lighting, outdoor heaters, and fans allow the rear terrace to be used year around.

 Monterey Colonial
 South Pasadena, California 2004:

This Monterey Colonial Residence is located on a private street in an upscale community of older homes built in the 1920s to 1930s. In 2004 Glen Hampton garden designs was contracted to revamp the existing front and rear gardens.

Landscape Designer Glen Hampton added wing walls and pilasters topped with classic urns with arranged plantings to frame the existing pedestrian entry walk. The entry courtyard was replanted with a colorful palette of plants that bloom throughout the year in this climate. A fern garden in the side yard leads to the rear garden. A fountain was designed as the focal point of the rear garden lawn area. It holds a bronze sculpture, which was commissioned by the client's grandmother in the early part of the twentieth century.

The existing pool area at the rear of the estate was replanted in the same colorful palette used in the front garden. New garden lighting for evening entertaining was installed throughout the property.

 Spanish Style Residence Residence
 Calabasas, California 2004:

In early part of the new millennium a premier master-planned gated community, "THE OAKS of CALABASAS", was developed in Los Angeles County adjacent to acres of open space in the Santa Monica Mountains. In 2004 Glen Hampton garden designs refered to John Melendez by GC AquaScapes, to design the gardens for his new residence.

Landscape Designer Glen Hamptons' design for this garden was influenced by the Spanish Style of the residence. An entry courtyard was created by installing low garden walls with a welcoming Cantera Stone fountain. The client, who loves to entertain his friends, requested that the covered rear terrace incorporate an outdoor living area, with TV, fireplace, and a cook-center bar. The two-sided fireplace was designed to be viewed from the rear terrace or a poolside terrace to provide warmth on chilly evenings.

A Mediterranean plant palette, of hot colors (reds, oranges, etc.) was selected in keeping with the California climate. Garden lighting was designed for entertaining large groups of guests, and to add drama to the garden setting after dark.

This garden was installed by GC AquaScapes.

 Spanish Villa
 Calabasas, California 2005:

John and Suzanna Melendez were so pleased with the first garden that Landscape Designer Glen Hampton created for them in 2004, that they contracted with Glen Hampton garden designs and GC AquaScapes again in 2005. This time to develop the gardens for their new and larger home in "THE OAKS of CALABASAS".

Landscape Designer Glen Hamptons' design for this new garden was influenced by the Spanish Villa's architecture. The entrance is framed by low garden walls, pilasters, and planters. Cantera Stone steps and paving draw you into the front entry of this Sanish Villa.

Having experienced some great parties on the rear terrace of their previous home, the clients wanted to duplicate that space in their new home. A large entertainment terrace spans the entire length of the rear of the villa. A free standing structure is located at one end, to frame rather than obstruct the spectacular mountain views. The structure incorporates an outdoor living area, TV, cook-center, and bar.

From the entertainment terrace/structure you transition into an outdoor living area featuring a fire pit for chilly evening entertainment. This living area is bordered by a fountain on one end and the swimming pool/spa on the other. The balance of the large rear garden is one big play yard, incorporating play equipment and a handball court for the client's daughters.

A Mediterranean plant palette, of hot colors (reds, oranges, etc.) was selected in keeping with the California climate. Garden lighting was designed for entertaining large groups of guests, and to add drama to the nighttime garden setting.

This garden was installed by GC AquaScapes.

 Tuscan Inspired Villa
 Calabasas, California 2006:

Next door neighbors of John and Suzanna Melendez were impressed by what Landscape Designer Glen Hampton had created for them in both of their homes in "THE OAKS of CALABASAS". In 2006 they contracted with Glen Hampton garden designs to design the gardens for their new Tuscan Inspired Villa.

Landscape Designer Glen Hamptons' design for this new garden was influenced by the Tuscan Villa's architecture. A grand staircase framed by low stone garden walls and pilasters with planters, draws you into the front entry of the villa. The rear garden opens onto an arched veranda, framing the view of the swimming pool.

The rear garden is broken up into a series of outdoor living spaces. The swimming pool area is bordered by the living room terrace with fireplace on one side and the pool house/dining terrace on the other. A series of arbors are used as transitions from one space to the next. The rear arbor, located at the end of the pool, frames the rose garden entrance and fountain, as well as the spectacular mountain views beyond.

The plantings, while formal in design, consist of a simple plant palette using only shades of green and white. The gardens lighting was designed for entertaining large groups of guests, and to add drama to the nighttime garden setting.

This garden was installed by GC AquaScapes.

 Colonial Inspired Residence
 Calabasas, California 2006:

Another resident of "THE OAKS of CALABASAS" was impressed by the gardens Landscape Designer Glen Hampton had created for John and Suzanna Melendez, and with the garden he had created for their next door neighbor. In 2006 they contracted with Glen Hampton garden designs to design the gardens for their new Colonial Inspired Residence.

Landscape Designer Glen Hamptons' design for this new garden was influenced by the Residences Colonial Style architecture. A formal staircase framed by low brick garden walls and pilasters with lanterns, draws you toward the front entrance of the Residence. The clients are originally from Indian... A mirror from their collection hangs at the entry as a welcoming gesture.

The rear garden opens onto a columned veranda. The shaded terrace is designed for entertaining with an outdoor fireplace, cook center, and sound system. Because the rear garden is modest in size the clients opted-out of installing a swimming, like most of their neighbors had done. Instead a fountain terrace was designed at the rear of the garden, to act as a focal point drawing your eye from the terrace out across the expansive lawn area.

A country garden plant palette was selected providing colorful year round plantings that attract bird and butterflies. The gardens lighting was designed for night time entertaining, and to add drama to the garden after dark.

This garden was installed by GC AquaScapes.
