The Process...

Once you have submitted Your Garden Design Services Inquiry to GHgd, Glen will contact you to discuss your garden design needs and will set up a meeting with you at your garden site.

After thirty years-plus of designing gardens for hundreds of satisfied clients Glen has developed A Simple FOUR-STEP PROCESS to creating Your Unique Personalized garden design tailored to Your Unique Lifestyle.



STEP ONE: The First Meeting...

Will be held On-site with Glen to discuss the scope of work to be completed. He will Listen to Your Thoughts about how you would like your garden to look and what sort of amenities you want included in the design, as well as any budget constraints. Glen will then give you his thoughts on how to Make The Garden of Your Dreams a Reality.

You should allow One to Two Hours for this meeting. There is No Fee Charged for this consultation.

Glen will present you with a Landscape Design Proposal/Contract at the end of this meeting based on the scope of landscape design work you have agreed upon. The Proposal/Contract will be at the Current GHgd Hourly Design Services Rate and in most cases will be capped by a Fixed Fee (Not to exceed) Compensation Agreement.



STEP TWO: The Site Analysis Visit...

Once Glen Hampton garden designs has been retained by you, they will visit your site again Within One Week to obtain information to be used in preparing Your Gardens Design.

If your residence is a new or complete remodel, a copy of the site plan from your Architect or Surveyor will be requested. If your residence is existing and it is determined that a professional survey is needed, GHgd will assist you by recommending a reputable surveyor they have worked with in the past (A new survey can take up to 4 weeks to complete and usually runs around $1500.00 for an average sized suburban property).

In addition GHgd will verify measurements and note existing site condition issues that will need to be addressed. If any of the existing garden elements or plantings are to be retained they will be inventoried. Also, extensive photographs will be taken of the existing garden area(s) to be utilized in the design process.

Glen Hampton garden designs will work with your Local Municipality and/or Homeowners Association to insure that Your completed Garden Design Plans comply with these institutions building codes, regulations, and guidelines.



STEP THREE: The Preparation of Conceptual Garden Design Plans
                       And Preliminary Construction Estimates...

Glen begins the design process by combining the information collected from: His First Meeting(s) with you (relating to how you would like your garden to look and what sort of amenities you want included); The information collected from the Site Analysis Visit; and Glen's Vision for Your Garden.

With GHgd's State of the Art CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) Software, Glen Will Create A Lifelike Conceptual Garden Design 3D Movie Presentation And Take You On A 3D Tour of his proposed design for Your Garden...

Glen will also prepare: Perspective views and/or photo design images (Done by taking actual photos of your existing site and superimposing the proposed hardscape, planting and lighting designs onto panoramic photographs); 2D Color Rendered Garden Design planting/lighting plans (Drawn to Scale); And descriptive photos of the proposed plant/lighting materials.

Design Review Meetings will be Scheduled with you during the Conceptual Garden Design Process... At your garden site or in our offices. Don't worry if you travel regularly or Don't Have Time to Meet... Glen Can Meet with you Anywhere In The World Anytime Online, Via Web Conferencing (Where you can view Glen's computer desktop and discuss all facets of Your Gardens Proposed Design as it evolves).

Glen Hampton garden designs Time-tested Presentation Methods have Proven Effective in Providing You with A Clear Visualization of What Your Garden Is Going To Look Like once Glen's proposed garden design has been implemented.

After the conceptual garden design plans have been finalized, a Preliminary List of Materials and Construction Costs Estimate will be prepared for Your Approval. At this point, if the cost estimate is too high Glen will make the necessary revisions to the Conceptual Garden Design Plans to bring them within Your Budget.

The Completed Conceptual Garden Design Plans Package Includes:

  • A 3D Movie
  • Color rendered 3D Perspective Views
  • A Color rendered 2D conceptual garden design plan... And 2D
    Black/White planting and lighting plans
  • Preliminary construction details *(If determined necessary by
    GHgd)
  • A booklet containing: The 3D Perspective views of various areas of
    Your Garden; Plant materials photos and descriptions; And a
    proposed materials list/preliminary installation cost estimate.

The Preparation of Conceptual Garden Design Plans can take up to Four Weeks. The Fees for these Design Services will be As Agreed to in the Approved Proposal/Contract Compensation Agreement.



STEP FOUR: The Preparation of Final Garden Installation
                      Construction Documents...

Larger Gardens and Estates Will Require A Complete Set of Construction Documents. These Documents will be based on the Approved Conceptual Garden Design Plans And Preliminary Construction Costs Estimates (See Step Three above).

The Completed Construction Document Package will Include:

  • A cover sheet with legend, site plan, and vicinity map
  • An existing site conditions survey/plan
  • A proposed hardscape plan (patios, walkways, swimming pools,
    etc.)
  • A utilities plan showing the locations of all existing/proposed
    water, gas, and electrical lines
  • A construction details sheet(s)
  • A planting plan and installation details
  • A lighting plan and installation details
  • Complete construction specifications and notes

At this point a Final List of Materials and Construction Costs Estimate will be prepared (Reflecting any changes made to the original Approved Conceptual Garden Design Plans during the preparation of the Garden Installation Construction Documents). If the final cost estimate is too high to implement the installation all at once, GHgd can divide the Construction Document Package into sections so that Your Garden can be implemented in phases, without changing the Approved Conceptual Garden Design Plans, as funds become available.

This Complete, Accurate, Easy to Read set of Garden Installation Construction Documents can be used by Your Landscape Contractor to obtain permits from your local governing agencies. Once all necessary permits/approvals are obtained Your Landscape Contractor Will Use These Construction Documents to Install Your New Garden.

The use of these Construction Documents by your Landscape Contractor will insure that Your Garden is installed according to the Final Approved Garden Design You and Glen have worked so hard together on, And...

The Preparation of Final Garden Installation Construction Documents can take up to Eight Weeks. The Fees for these Design Services will be As Agreed to in the Approved Proposal/Contract Compensation Agreement.
