Arroyo Seco Estate Pasadena, California 1985:
In 1929 the distinguished Los Angeles architect Paul Williams designed this English Castle for racehorse owner Jack Atkins. Located overlooking the Arroyo Seco it had commanding views of the San Gabriel Mountain Range and the City of Pasadena.
In 1985 Glen Hampton garden designs was contacted by the Pasadena Showcase House of Design and asked to restore the original cascade, fashioned after the one at Chatsworth House in England. The cascade had been inoperative for decades. Landscape Designer Glen Hampton restored the original falls; added a fountain to the lower basin; installed garden lighting; and brought in over 3500 colorful perennials to complete the restoration.
Sadly Atkins Castle was totally destroyed by fire in 2005. As of this writing the cascade remains once again inoperative.

Country Estate San Marino, California 1986:
This Country Estate located in the Oak Grove area of San Marino was originally built by a prominent San Marino resident in the early 1930’s. When Glen Hampton garden designs was contacted to revamp the existing gardens and residence the structure was pink slump stone; the entrance had been moved to a side street; and a tennis court had been constructed in the original front garden.
By refinishing the exterior of the residence in a half-timbered brick design with a faux finish granite block base, Landscape Designer Glen Hampton was able to give the residence an English Country Style appearance. Glen also designed a new entrance motor court at the side street and created a pergola with a central fountain focal point to direct visitors through the English Gardens and around to the front entry of the residence.

Oak Knoll Estate Pasadena, California 1987:
This English Style Estate located in the Oak Knoll area of Pasadena was built in the late 1920’s. Although small in size containing only three bedrooms the residence has the look and feel of many grander homes located in the Oak Knoll district.
The lot is modest in size and when the Clients contacted Glen Hampton garden designs the existing gardens mainly consisted of a couple of well maintained lawns and a few planting beds. Landscape Designer Glen Hampton worked with his Clients to make over the grounds, incorporating a pool-spa, outdoor cooking-dining area, gazebo with rose garden, and even a putting green for the Clients who loved to Golf.
This garden was featured in This Old House Magazine - 2006

Oak Grove Estate San Marino, California 1988:
This English Style Country Estate located in the Oak Grove area of San Marino was built by a prominent east coast resident as his winter home in the early twentieth century. As was common in a number of stately homes in the Pasadena area at that time the residence contained a large pipe organ, later donated to the Pasadena Presbyterian Church.
Former Clients of Glen Hampton garden designs purchased the residence in the mid 1980’s. The previous owner was renowned for her garden parties… So it was surprising to discover that the gardens were comprised mostly of dead trees overgrown with sprawling lush flowering vines.
Over the next several years Landscape Designer Glen Hampton worked with his Clients to create a series of inviting outdoor living spaces contained within the English Gardens.

Beverly Park Estate Beverly Hills, California 1994:
The Client had specified an English Style Garden when this Beverly Park estate was designed and built in the 1980's. What he got was anything But…
When Glen Hampton garden designs was contacted and asked, “What can you do to make this garden look more like English Gardens?”... Landscape Designer Glen Hampton proceeded to write and essay, while walking thru the garden on his first visit. It spelled out in detail how he would transform the existing garden into the style of an English Garden.
Rod Stewart hired Glen Hampton garden designs and the garden was transformed on-site without the preparation of a single set of landscape plans… All that was needed was Landscape Designer Glen Hampton's vision for these English Gardens.

Cottage Garden Pasadena, California 1998:
This Cottage was designed by the prestigious architectural firm of Marston-Van Pelt and Maybury in the 1920’s. At that time it was landscaped by the famous landscape design team of Florence Yoch and Lucile Council.
Our Client, an architect and avid gardener purchased the cottage in the 1990’s and set about restoring the rear garden from photos he had collected on the Yoch/Council original design.
Since no information was available on the front garden, Glen Hampton garden designs was contracted to design the new front garden in collaboration with the architect owner.
The result is an English Style Cottage Garden with a Croquet Lawn as the main focal point. The client actually had an old fashioned Croquet party to inaugurate the new front garden… Everyone came dressed in their summer whites.

Knollview Encino, California 2004:
Knollview was conceived in 1929 as a twenty-three acre country home for a wealthy Los Angeles family in the community that came to be known as Encino. Located on one of the numerous south knolls of the San Fernando Valley with sweeping views to the northwest the property contained forests of California Live Oak Trees.
The current owners purchased the property in the late 1990's. At that time the small English Style Hall was in bad repair and none of the original gardens remained. The estate had been reduced in size to four acres... But still retained over one-hundred of the original California Live Oaks.
Thus began a five year Creative Collaboration between Clients, Architect Daniel C. Lawrence, and Landscape Designer Glen Hampton to expand the residence and establish the lush English Gardens at Knollview as they appear today.

Hancock Park Manor Los Angeles, California 2006:
This Mansion is located in the Historic Hancock Park Area just west of downtown Los Angeles. The English Style Residence was built in the late twenties or early thirties and its rear garden has sweeping views looking west out over the lush greens of the Wilshire Country Club.
Glen Hampton garden designs was contracted to revamp the existing gardens. Together Landscape Designer Glen Hampton and his Client achieved the desired effect by creating a series of outdoor living and dining spaces.
Several existing terraces were enclosed by using English Style trellis work inset with the Client’s Collection of antique windows. The outdoor living terrace was defined by constructing a cozy corner fireplace and garden window trellis arch to enhance the mansions classic architectural style.
English trellis gates and fencing, stonework, new plantings and garden lighting were added to complete the desired vision.
This estate garden remodel was installed by DG Landworks Inc. and Stuart Byles Carpentry.
