Colonial Inspired Residence Gallery Calabasas, California 2006:
Another resident of "THE OAKS of CALABASAS" was impressed by the gardens Landscape Designer Glen Hampton had created for John and Suzanna Melendez, and with the garden he had created for their next door neighbor. In 2006 they contracted with Glen Hampton garden designs to design the gardens for their new Colonial Inspired Residence.
Landscape Designer Glen Hamptons' design for this new garden was influenced by the Residences Colonial Style architecture. A formal staircase framed by low brick garden walls and pilasters with lanterns, draws you toward the front entrance of the Residence. The clients are originally from Indian... A mirror from their collection hangs at the entry as a welcoming gesture.
The rear garden opens onto a columned veranda. The shaded terrace is designed for entertaining with an outdoor fireplace, cook center, and sound system. Because the rear garden is modest in size the clients opted-out of installing a swimming, like most of their neighbors had done. Instead a fountain terrace was designed at the rear of the garden, to act as a focal point drawing your eye from the terrace out across the expansive lawn area.
A country garden plant palette was selected providing colorful year round plantings that attract bird and butterflies. The gardens lighting was designed for night time entertaining, and to add drama to the garden after dark.
